Why This Seat Matters

The Utah House of Representatives sets state law on everything that touches daily life in Davis County — education, housing, taxes, public safety, and how Utah prepares families and businesses for the future. House District 15 covers Kaysville and surrounding communities, and the representative who holds this seat shapes those decisions for thousands of residents. The November 3, 2026 general election will determine whether District 15 keeps the momentum of the past three terms — or starts over.

Meet Ariel

Ariel Defay is a third-generation Davis County resident. She grew up here, built her life here, and is raising her family here — and that’s not incidental to why she serves. It’s the whole reason. She came to public policy the right way: by studying it seriously. She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Utah State and a master’s in public administration from Ohio University, and she started her career as a policy staffer in the Ohio House of Representatives — learning firsthand how good legislation actually gets written and moved. Back home in Utah, she and her husband built a small business together, which gave her a ground-level view of what economic policy looks like when it lands on real families and real employers. That combination — policy depth and private-sector skin in the game — shapes how she approaches every vote.

Now in her third term representing House District 15, Ariel has built a record that’s specific enough to verify. This past legislative session she expanded paid maternity leave for public employees, moved bills improving Utah’s approach to AI policy, passed legislation to restore healthier technology balance in classrooms, and cut taxes. She also led the effort to pass multiple bills targeting deepfakes and child sexual abuse materials — positioning Utah as a national leader in digital safety. That’s not a single-issue record. It’s the work of a legislator who shows up prepared, builds coalitions, and delivers.

What She’s Running On

Family Affordability — Housing costs, childcare, and everyday expenses are squeezing Utah families, and Ariel’s approach is practical: address the costs that families can’t absorb on their own through sound policy, not government expansion. Her work on housing affordability legislation and her support for tax cuts reflect a consistent philosophy — government should make it easier for families to stay in their communities, not harder.

Strengthening Families — Ariel believes that stable, opportunity-rich communities don’t happen by accident. They’re built through policies that reinforce strong families, support local institutions, and keep Utah’s values intact as the state grows.

Education and Technology — She authored HB 273 to restore healthy technology use in classrooms while still supporting AI literacy. She’s also taken a hard line on protecting children online, passing legislation on deepfakes and child sexual exploitation that has drawn national attention.

Sustainable Economic Development — Utah’s growth is an asset — if it’s managed well. Ariel supports economic development that creates long-term opportunities, keeps local businesses competitive, and maintains the quality of life that makes Davis County worth living in.

The Field

Ariel Defay ran uncontested at the Davis County convention, securing the Republican nomination. She will be on the November 3, 2026 general election ballot. Three terms in, her record is concrete, her constituent relationships are real, and her grasp of the issues shaping Utah’s future — from AI policy to housing to digital safety — is well ahead of the field. She doesn’t just campaign on these issues. She’s passed legislation on them. That’s why we’re proud to endorse her.
