Doers Endorsed: Paul Cutler

Who is Paul Cutler, and why are we endorsing him for Utah House of Representatives, House District 18?

“Rep. Cutler epitomizes the Doer ethic: he is accessible to his constituents, smart, hard-working, and successful. He promotes family-friendly policies and does so with persuasion and fact-based arguments. He advocates and delivers results while holding true to Utah values. Paul Cutler is exactly the sort of person the Doers Network wants in the Utah legislature.”

Why This Seat Matters

The Utah House of Representatives shapes state law on everything from education funding and fiscal policy to how local governments serve their communities. House District 18 covers Centerville and surrounding Davis County — a community of families and neighbors who expect their representative to show up, listen, and deliver. Paul Cutler is the incumbent, seeking re-election in the June 23, 2026 primary, and he’s made it his personal standard to be exactly that kind of representative.

Meet Paul

Paul Cutler will tell you he got into public service because he likes to complain about government. He’ll also tell you he’s a lousy fisherman and an even worse golfer. That kind of candor — self-deprecating, plainspoken, and genuinely funny — is exactly who he is, and it’s no accident that his social media handle is “Part Time Politician.” He’s not performing. He just happens to think public service is a calling worth taking seriously, even if you don’t take yourself too seriously.

The substance, though, is hard to argue with. Paul holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Utah and an MBA from BYU — degrees that have shaped how he thinks about problems: analytically, with an eye toward what actually works. He and his wife, Sherry, have built their life in Centerville, where they raised four children and are now grandparents to five. That’s not a talking point for Paul. It’s the reason he ran in the first place.

His path through elected office has been varied and deep. He served on the Centerville City Council and as Mayor before being elected to the Utah House of Representatives, where he represents District 18. Along the way, he developed a governing philosophy that takes fiscal discipline seriously, insists on respecting the people doing the disagreeing, and believes that proactive, thoughtful planning now spares communities painful scrambling later. It’s the kind of record that doesn’t always make headlines but makes real differences.

What He’s Running On

Keeping Utah the Best-Managed State — Paul’s standard is simple: Utah’s reputation for fiscal discipline and effective governance is worth protecting. That means making hard calls carefully, resisting the temptation to spend more than necessary, and measuring success by whether government actually delivers for the people it serves — not by how much it does.

Limited, Efficient, Effective Government — Paul believes in government that respects the principle of local control, stays in its lane, and doesn’t make itself a burden on the communities it’s supposed to serve. He holds it to a standard: it should work, it should be lean, and it should leave room for individuals and communities to make their own decisions.

Treating People with Respect — Paul believes that effective representation requires listening to people you disagree with, making your case with facts and persuasion instead of pressure, and earning trust the old-fashioned way. In a political environment that often rewards the opposite, it’s worth saying out loud.

The Field

Paul Cutler ran uncontested at the Davis County convention, securing the Republican nomination. His record speaks clearly: years of service at the city and state level, a reputation for accessibility that his constituents consistently point to, and a governing style that prioritizes results over theater. Paul has done the work, built the relationships, and earned the trust of his community. That’s why we’re proud to endorse him.
