We can have confidence in our elections, “But you don’t have to take my word for it”. 

Growing up as a kid in the 80s and 90s, one of my favorite television programs was Reading Rainbow. The host or guest children would highlight a book, sharing how amazing it was and what it could teach you. Then, they would inevitably say, “But you don’t have to take my word for it.” This simple statement was an open invitation to discover the book for yourself.

As an election administrator with over two decades of experience in the field, I have deep confidence in our elections. You can have confidence in them, too, but you don’t have to take my word for it. I invite you to discover it for yourself.

Providing for Public Discovery

As we continue to seek ways for the public to have personal experiences in elections, I am incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished:

• Election Observation Area: We have created a transparency-focused observation area to ensure citizens can see firsthand how ballots are received, reviewed, and counted in Davis County.

• Public Auditors: Public audits have been an important part of every election since the early 2000s. Recently, we enhanced these audits by including Davis County citizens as our auditors.

• Election Town Halls: Recognizing that our citizens have questions, and providing an opportunity to ask them, is critical for our team. Each of our town halls begins with the statement, “No question is off limits.” We love hearing from citizens and answering their questions as we walk them through the election process and the safeguards that are in place to protect our elections.

• An Improved Website: Accurate, timely information helps answer questions before doubts even have a chance to grow. That’s why we’ve focused heavily on upgrading our website. Citizens can now easily find election dates, deadlines, candidate and ballot details, and real-time election results and statistics at DavisCountyElectionsUtah.gov. 

These wins aren't mine alone; they belong to an incredible team of public servants. Together, we work toward a shared goal: providing you, the citizen, with a personalized and trusted experience in every election. 

The Vision: Tackling the Imperfections

No system is completely flawless, and the election process is no exception. However, understanding these challenges should never mean accepting them. While I am incredibly proud of our history, I refuse to settle for the status quo.

True progress requires proactive accountability. That is why we consistently test our internal controls and adapt our processes. A recent example of this commitment was our comprehensive review of voter registration, which spanned citizenship audits, documentation reviews, and data completeness checks. The results were highly reassuring, revealing minimal errors. By addressing these minor issues immediately, we continue to reinforce the absolute accuracy and integrity of our voter registration records.

Why I Do It: The "Why" Behind the Work

Working in elections has definitely become more hectic and challenging in recent years, and people often ask me why I stick with it. The truth is, I genuinely love what I do. I believe in this work, and I see the meaningful impact it has on our community every day.

This isn't just a job or a title to me, it’s an amazing opportunity to serve.
