Managing a large, multi-division law enforcement agency in a rapidly evolving environment requires leadership with deep operational experience, community trust, and the credibility that only comes from decades of service.

Meet Mike

Mike Smith has never left Utah County. He was born here, raised here, built his career here, and is raising his family here. That kind of lifelong connection to a community shapes how you lead it.

Mike started his law enforcement career as a patrol officer and never stopped growing. Over more than 30 years, he rose through the ranks — leading the Utah County Metro SWAT Team, serving on a joint task force with the U.S. Marshal’s Office, reaching the rank of Chief of Police, and earning his certificate from the FBI National Academy. Along the way he served two terms as President of the Utah Sheriffs Association, bringing the same commitment to excellence at the statewide level that he’s shown throughout his career in Utah County.

In 2018, Utah County voters elected Mike Sheriff. He’s spent his tenure demonstrating that their trust was well-placed — building a department culture of professionalism, maintaining strong community relationships, and navigating the complex demands of a county in the midst of rapid growth. He’s running for re-election because the work isn’t finished.
