ABOUT Matt

Matt is a business owner who has raised his three children in his district with his wife of 25 years. He has spent the majority of his professional career in sales, technology, employment services, and law. For nearly 12 years, Matt has served on West Valley City’s Professional Standards Review Board, providing oversight and accountability for the West Valley City Police Department.

Throughout his legislative career, Matt has worked closely with both city leaders and law enforcement to advance policies that strengthen public safety and improve local governance. He has sponsored and supported several pieces of legislation impacting both the City and Police Department of West Valley City, with a consistent focus on public safety, strong public schools, and ensuring government remains limited, transparent, and accountable to the people it serves.

Matt has also been an outspoken advocate for government transparency and proper oversight. He has raised concerns when the judiciary and certain state agencies have overstepped their authority or failed to maintain adequate transparency. Among his accomplishments, Matt enacted landmark legislation establishing random three-judge panels to hear constitutional challenges to Utah state law, and he sponsored legislation to address the growing issue of unlicensed drivers on Utah roads.

Matt works closely with stakeholders, agencies, and community partners to craft thoughtful policy with clear goals and measurable outcomes. His approach is grounded in the belief that good policy should help make Utahns safer, strengthen families and communities, and create greater opportunity for individuals to pursue their American dreams in business, family, and service.
