ABOUT Shane
COL(R) Shane Manwaring commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Utah Army National Guard in 1999 and was assigned to the Aviation Branch. Following graduation from Initial Entry Rotary Wing, he completed the AH-64A course and was assigned to 1/211th ARB in West Jordan, UT. In 2001 COL Manwaring was assigned his first command, D/1-211th ARB. From 2004 to 2013 he served as a battle captain, Platoon Leader C/1-211th ARB, C/1- 211th Commander, C/1-112 Security & Support Commander, 19th Special Forces Group Liaison Officer, 97th Aviation Troop Command S1, and 2/211th General Support Aviation Battalion S3. After CGSC COL(R) Manwaring was assigned as the 97th Aviation Troop Command S1, 97th Aviation Troop Command Deputy Commander, 10th CAB Deputy Commander and 97th Aviation Troop Command Commander. COL(R) Manwaring is qualified in the TH-67, OH-58 A/C, AH-64A, UH-60L, and the UH-60M airframes.
In 2003 COL(R) Manwaring began his professional career as a Deputy Sheriff for the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office. From 2003 to 2010 he was assigned as a Patrol Deputy Sheriff, S.W.A.T. operator, and Public Affairs Officer. In 2010 the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Bureau transitioned to the Unified Police Department. From 2010 until 2020, COL(R) Manwaring has been assigned as a Fugitive Detective with the U.S. Marshal’s Violent Fugitive Apprehension Team, Traffic Officer, and Patrol Supervisor. In 2020, COL Manwaring was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and has served as an Executive Officer in the Taylorsville Precinct, Technical Services Division, Magna Precinct and Watch Command.
His professional military and law enforcement education includes: Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC) in Fort Gordon, GA, Utah Police Officer Standards and Training, DOD Public Affairs Officer Qualification Course, S.W.A.T. basic and advanced course, Drug Recognition Course, Crisis Intervention Course, Interview and Interrogation Course, and Army Aviation Maintenance Officer’s Course.
His deployments include: Afghanistan (2004-2005; 2019-2020), Operation Jump Start (2007), Djibouti (2010), Kosovo (2014), and Germany (2016).
COL (R) Manwaring’s awards and decorations include: Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, two Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, three Army Commendation Medals, Army Achievement Medal, five Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, NATO Medal, Master Aviator badge, and Airborne badge.
He is married to the former Jodi Strieff of Sandy, UT. They have three sons, Spencer (Wife Sarah and son Harris), Taylor (Wife Emma), Hunter, and two daughters, Andilusia, and Eleanor.
